How to Use CRM from Day 1: Implementation Made Easy

It is important for small business growers and project managers to understand how to implement CRM in a cost and time effective manner. The burden of implementing CRM systems can be greatly reduced if you stick to some simple principles and do a little planning ahead of time. Later on, you can look to AI and automation to make your data management even easier!

Here are some ideas to keep in mind when undergoing CRM implementation:

Data Migration

Before committing to a CRM system, make sure you decide what data you already have that needs to be migrated to the new system. You may find that none of your data needs to be moved, or you have no data to begin with, in which case this process just got that much easier! However, if you have existing data which needs to be integrated into your new system, make sure you choose the right CRM application for your existing data.

Team Input from Day 1

As a leader and developer it is important to consult your team before implementing a system that they will be using on a daily basis. Consulting users will give you insight about your team’s previous experience with CRM. You may have staff who have already used CRM. Understanding their past experience can reveal whether or not a specific application will work for your small business. If users haven’t worked with a CRM before, then you may want to factor in time to familiarize them with the application. Providing time to learn will improve operations in the long run.

Setting Goals to Grow

Part of implementation is understanding why you are committing to a specific application. Ask yourself, what does your small business plan to achieve with a CRM? From financial goals, customer acquisition rates, marketing effectiveness, and service response times, defining specific goals to reach with your CRM can elevate effectiveness and spur productivity. By setting proper Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) you can confidently use a CRM from day 1 to grow

CRM System Parameters

Many CRM applications require users to define administrative properties. Setting these parameters early on requires project managers to define their processes before data can be input correctly. Making sure you have defined transaction and contract processes will help you set the administrative settings for your CRM. The sooner these settings are in place, the sooner you can be assured that your users are learning the system correctly.

Peripheral Applications

CRM applications allow users to add additional third-party software to their systems. Exploring third-party applications may be a good idea to help you find tools you didn’t know you needed.
